My Sony TV is a couple of years old but it has a app named "Live TV and Catch Up", it's basically Youview.

Yes weve got that too, but it appears to need  cabled aerial connection. We spent a long time loading down endless apps to log in to the various different services

    OH is foolish.
Had either OH or OP asked before specifying the extension services wiring...  ethernet cables and coax cables to the <likely to be needed points> in the new room(s) would have been a no-brainer proposal from most on here I'd expect.

No mention of freesat on Sony's website although it does have twin DVB-T2 tuners and a DSat tuner(or two?).

Look into some way of hiding the required coaxial cable(s) in decorative trunking if a suitable route can be found?

Nah buy a mini pc and connect it via HdMI , almost future proof i.e 1 nano second from now. Not very money saving but you can read emails/browse the web etc etc , I have a mini one that I bought to access American shows over a VPN, and some other subscription service that don't appear on smart TVs.Mine came with a vesa mount so it sits behind the TV that needed it . Cheaper still buy a pi (at least pi4 better). Of course I would ask the OH what made him think that you can access everything on t'internet without some outlay or hidden cables.

Alright having a Satelite Dish but has the TV got a Freesat Tuner?
  • You could use one of these, which probably works out cheaper than installing an aerial:

    https://vboxcomm.com/product/vbox-android-tv-gateway-for-satellite/

Just plug it into one of your Freesat coax points along with ethernet to your router or suitable wifi extender with ethernet.

I think your TV is Android TV OS so you can get the VBox app to run on it, but you can also access the Freesat across all sorts of other devices in the house as well.

I can't vouch for it because I've never used it but bought a similar device from HD Homerun to use with Freeview but was tempted to buy a Vbox except I needed quad tuner.

We have Freesat - The main set has a built in Freesat Tuner. The one in the kitchen connects via a SX Freesat HD Box.

Have just given my Grandson a 40inch FREEVIEW set which hasa Freeview Tuner built in and only connect via an aerial. A lot of people get confused - I wonder if the guy who fitted  the Satelite dish actually knew the difference. - I can see Emley Moor/Holme Moss and Pole Moor masts from my garden but prefer the satelite. I used to be able to watch TV without an aerial as did many others around me.
