Win the Wolsey Lodges prize for April. This is a two-night stay for two at Lordington House, a wonderful B&B overlooking the Ems Valley in West Sussex. This fine 17th Century house is surrounded by a lovingly tended garden with toped hedges, lawns and borders: keen gardeners will appreciate this elegant Wolsey Lodge.

Inside, this much-loved family home has a magnificent staircase. There is a drawing room for B&B guests (with open fires in winter), family photos, books and magazines galore to browse, plus a music/television room, complete with Bechstein grand piano waiting to be played.

Bedrooms are furnished with an eclectic mix of Georgian, Victorian, oriental and contemporary features, plus, of course, comfortable beds. A generous breakfast in the elegant dining room with locally sourced produce and homemade preserves will set you up for a day of exploring the surrounding countryside or the nearby cities of Chichester and Portsmouth.
