Wages not paid into new bank account after switching?

My husband just recently switched over to NatWest from the Coop bank closing his coop account. He just went to in the Coop bank app for his statements and noticed his wage that should have been sent to his NatWest account was showing in the Coop bank with a minus -£xxx . There was a message to to contact the Coop bank which he did and was told to contact the switching team in the morning. He’ll contact NatWest too. Can anyone explain what could have happened? Should he contact his payroll too?

Doesn’t look like it but not sure as there are no transactions except the amount showing that transfered over with the switch

Why would he be waiting until the account is closed before trying to access statement info?  Anyway, perhaps worth bearing in mind that payment forwarding is handled by a central redirection engine, such that payments shouldn't even reach the old bank and should simply be sent straight to the new one....

Under the current account switch guarantee, any problems should be addressed by your new provider - so I would be pushing Natwest for an explanation and resolution. Speaking to the Co-op won't hurt, and asking payroll might help (i.e. to discover if the payment was returned) - at the very least you can update his account details with them.

When did all this happen? If the wages were paid on Friday or are due today (Monday) I would check both accounts again this morning. It might just be a timing thing due to yesterday being Sunday (if that's when he checked).
