Teams meetings and muting somebody, a fellow participant?

Hi,
Im trying to help out a female friend. She is a full time student and sometimes has teams lectures. She is the only woman in the class and one of the guys makes her feel uncomfortable, says mildly misogynistic things (but not too over the top, so that he doesnt get himself in trouble) and sometimes gets laughs from the other men. She wants to know if she can mute this chat participant but still participate in class. Ive found out that she might be able to and that the users thumbnail will pulsate when he's talking, so she will know when he's talking but not hear him. If the group finds out, then she's fine with him asking her questions in the typed chat. But he also reminds her of an ex partner etc.
Its not easy for her. Shes already complained to student support but nothing has yet happened and she doesnt want to leave the course.
Any ideas?
The tutor calls the participants and then they all attend class. I dont know much about this sort of thing but hoped that you guys would...
Cheers

Wouldn't this be better raised with the tutor? You can mute people on Teams but it mutes them for everybody, not just you.0

Lets face it though, he might say no. How is that fair to her?0

According to ChatGPT the opposite is true:Neil_Jones said:Wouldn't this be better raised with the tutor? You can mute people on Teams but it mutes them for everybody, not just you.if i mute the person, does it mute the person for everybodyNo, if you mute someone in a Teams meeting, it only mutes that person for your own audio. Other participants in the meeting will still be able to hear the person who has been muted if they are speaking.
Each participant in the meeting can choose to mute or unmute their own audio as needed, but muting someone only affects the participant who initiates the action. So if you mute someone in the meeting, you will not hear their audio, but everyone else in the meeting will still be able to hear them if they speak.
