Calling the UK from South Korea
alldoors
I have a two week trip booked and have been trying to look at the cheapest method of dialling UK landline numbers from South Korea. I will need to pick up messages from my mobile and landline whilst away. The costs are extortionate if just dialling from your mobile home. Anyone have any tips on the cheapest way to do it? I think it costs about £2.30 per minute to receive calls let alone make them!

Would WiFi calling work? WiFi is readily available.1

I think so but it's an issue of which app would do it?TadleyBaggie said:Would WiFi calling work? WiFi is readily available.0 -
There are various cheap VoIP calling services with which you can make calls using WiFi. Personally I use Viber Out, included with the Viber messaging app (which is actually South Korean but works anywhere), after adding a little credit. Very cheap, probably there are cheaper, but call quality is pretty good and your mobile number that the account is registered to is displayed to the called party. It's always free to receive SMS when roaming of course, if you need to receive OTPs etc.Evolution, not revolution1

That's interesting. Thanks for that. Will do some research. It makes me wonder how these Indian scam callers spoof UK numbers to try and pretend to be from London (one I had the other day said he was in London but the number he spoofed was Huddersfield!. I told him he needs to try another criminal activity as he was failing big time). Makes me think though could my telephone number be compromised if I use one of these VOIP services?eDicky said:There are various cheap VoIP calling services with which you can make calls using WiFi. Skype is good for this. You can add money to your account as you need it. Rates are decent.
If the other person has Skype it's free, or you can call any UK number. You can even get your own UK number that goes to Skype.1
