Google wallet and Halifax credit card

I have been using Google wallet for the last three months with out a problem but this week we went away for a couple of days and my Halifax credit card linked to Google wallet was refused, I then used the physical card and that went straight through, the same thing happened again later that day. I have tried Google wallet again at home and it worked as normal. Has anybody had this happen or know what the problem might be?

Thanks for the reply. The first time was for a large amount but the retailer said they usually don't have a problem with payment by apps.

I wonder if it the same as the problem I have with my Lloyds card - the same stable. It doesn't like high transactions using Wallet, will then pay the same transaction by C&P but will reject any other Wallet transaction same day but will work fine next day.  As it is my general use card I always have to have the card with me.
