Any Good Tariffs for an Empty Property?

My mother has recently passed away and now the house will be empty for several months until we can sell.

EDF want me to take over the account on their standard tariff and although the gas/electricity usage will be minuscule this will mean the bills will still include a sizable amount for the standing charges.

Are there any companies offering tariffs with no (or much smaller) standing order charges?

Thanks

I think you'll find that most standing charges are within pennies of each other.

Ask to speak to the Bereavement Team.  When I has the same scenario they waived the s/c as long as usage was minimal & I paid for any usage on a regular bill basis.  We were with EON, but don't switch as you are effectively an established customer with EDF which should be in your favour.  But it must be the specific department you contact.

The energy account should be changed into the name  "the executor/s of" and nothing should need paying until probate is granted and the property is sold.

Afraid I've got nowhere with this! Spoken to EDF (phone and chat line) and they do not have a specific bereavement dept/team - just the helpline.

They have put account in name of "Executors of....." but will not budge on the standing charges - saying they have no such tariff.

Tried Utilita but they are unable to take over due to the types of smart meter at the property.

So, looks like I am stuck with paying EDF for them delivering nothing unless anyone has any other suggestions.  :smirk:
