Inter railing insurance

My child is travelling with friends this summer inter-railing through Europe for one month. I was just wondering if anyone could advise me on what special insurance was needed or what kind of insurance I need for them?

If your child is 18 they have to arrange their own Insurance. It would just be a standard long trip travel Insurance for the period of time between leaving UK and returning to UK, so if 1 month is not exact because they don't have a ticket yet for return journey, they should get a policy that is for 2 months or longer if required. Best to phone companies to ensure any questions can be answered. One major issue is that some activities are not covered by some policies. For example if they decided to hire a motor scooter say in Rome, then had an accident, their Travel cover may not cover them for medical treatment costs or return to UK by air ambulance. So be careful to know what activities would not be covered.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.1
