    Yes understood.

But I was asking, out of interest, how the OP managed to take a reading on the 9th, some days before the SOLR contacted customers.  Just by chance, or did he learn in advance?
The actual readings I took were on the 12th July, which Octopus used as their start reading from 9/7 it appears. So in any case I’m only interested in anything charged by Neo prior to the 8/7.

Whatever the technicalities of exact readings from the 9th, Neo’s estimate is way out and should end at the reading when Octopus took over.

In my case Octopus used an estimated start reading for the 9th and did not use my actual reading from the 12th as they decided it was too low. That resulted in a big Octopus bill for 9th July to 8th August followed by an even bigger credit for 8th to 9th August when they finally accepted my reading.

As long as both Neo and Octopus use the same value It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong as the prices were the same. If the figures don't match then I guess that's one of your issues with Neo's final bill.

I started a thread about a bill I’d received ‘supposedly’ from Neo for £2000+ which I suspected was a scam; the figures were ridiculous, gas had been charged at the electric rate (or vice versa) and the terminology in the accompanying email was not what you’d expect from a utility company. And then there were the spelling errors . . . I tried contacting Neo numerous times asking for explanations but never received any responses, although I did get reminders for the bill.
I spent a lot of time going through each line of their bill, told them what it should be and surprisingly got an adjusted invoice. At this point, given my other concerns about this whole episode being a scam, I didn’t know whether to pay up, so I put the bill to one side. I subsequently received a weekly reminder for three weeks, but these have since stopped. I may still owe Neo £200+ but at the moment it’s all gone quiet.

Not yet got an adjusted bill (not holding my breath, but surprised as surely they want their money!) but their reminders seemed to have stopped over the last week. Let’s see!

However I’ve checked this bill and it’s in error asking for £800, overcharging me by £300 as the final estimated readings are wildly incorrect.
Does their final reading match Octopus's starting reading? If so then it doesn't really matter if it's right or wrong.

FYI I was in the same boat, their final bill was incorrect in almost every way, wrong start date, wrong tariffs, wrong tariff change dates. In addition they did not recognise two of the three manual payments that I made after they cancelled the Direct Debit.

I handled this by emailing them an itemised list of their errors, and sending a couple of chasing up emails. They did in the end correct everything on my bill, reducing it from £643.35 down to £70.93.

If you've notified them of their errors then in you shoes I'd ignore anything short of an Letter Before Actiin or court claim. If they are stupid enough to take it that far you could ask for mediation and offer something to settle.

I also got an email from them a while back, and sent them the correct readings, including a reminder that they didn't use the correct tariff, which I've told them before they went under...
They've updated the invoice with my readings but the tariff is still wrong.
Since then I've emailed Octopus, asking to confirm whether the invoice is genuine or not. They've forwarded my email to their Neo team...

I got a threatening email from Neo today, saying that if I don't pay, they'll report me to credit agencies, which I'm not happy to hear.

Not sure if I should get back to them and reiterate that the tariff is wrong or just ignore it...

I would resend your previous email re-stating their errors.

I sent the billing team an email saying that unless they correct the invoice using the correct tariff, I'm not paying and just now I got an email back from Octopus:

    Hello there,

Thank you for getting back to me.

Our advice from the Neo team is to not pay the balance that is being requested until we have further updated.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch again if you have any questions at all, I'm here to help you!

  • I made an error in an electricity meter reading, effectively submitting a neighbour's reading rather than my own and inflating my bill fivefold in the process. When I sent in a corrected reading, this was not accepted by Neo Energy and they continued to use the 'rogue' reading for billing purposes.and In their final bill they insist on the higher amount and threaten debt collection action on the outstanding amount of £590. Subsequent adjusted meter readings backed up by meter photo are ignored while they doggedly insist on the mistaken reading. Octopus calculate on my current actuals. How best can I handle this debt collection threat?.

Neo's closing meter reading has to be identical to Octopus's opening reading.
If Neo get as far as trying to take you to court, that will be your defence.

Equally, it could support Neo’s claim. If the switch reading is higher than the actual meter reading, then the poster will overpay Neo and underpay Octopus.

When index readings are used for billing, then the poster would only pay the standing charge until the actual meter reading passes the switch reading. I am not sure how Octopus deals with this situation if someone immediately goes onto Agile or Tracker?
