Visa debit pending transactions

My current account online statement is showing that I have funds available, but when I try and withdraw cash the request is declined.
I rang my bank and they have told me it is because there is a pending Visa debit transaction from Amazon 'hanging' on my account. Basically, Amazon have made a mistake and charged me twice. One payment has correctly been taken from my account and the amount shows up on my statement, but the duplicate payment is a mistake - it's in limbo somewhere and will apparently take 7 working days before it 'drops off' from my account.
My bank has told me that this happens because Visa debit payments are guaranteed and the bank have to wait 7 working days to ensure the payment will not be taken up. I've had no notification from Amazon or my bank that this has happened, and as a result I can't access funds that should be available and appear to be there on my statement.
Has anyone else had similar problems and can anyone give me any advice on what I can do about this. It seems very wrong.
Thanks

Ring Amazon - who are the only ones who can neutralise it. You will need to give them the transaction details (date / time / value etc .. from the original)Your Bank are (unusually !!) quite right - that it will take up to 7 working days to 'drop off' otherwise. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I had the exactly same Issue with Amazon. They reserved money twice for parts of an order (over 300 GBP).
In the end they only charged me once, and I called the bank after about 10 days to cancel the other holding. funnily enough I also received the goods twice. That might happen to you as well. They never took the money a second time though.
cheers,
dsab
P.S. before anyone starts complaining... i informed them about it after I didn't hear for 8 weeks and returned the goods. But they said they would never have discovered it on their own.
It appears they process a holding on your account every time they print the package slip. So there might be another delievery on the way.0
