    Thanks for the ideas.
    I now have
    1. Gassafe report.
    2. Photo of the gas leak taken with inspector.
    2. Engineer report who replaced the part after the original trader refused.
    3. Manufacturers report regarding part.
    4. A sample part for demonstration.

I have all the correspondence with the trader detailed plus letter before court action proof of delivery and signature. They never replied or accepted my suggestion of mediation through a professional body. Also evidence that they were given 2 opportunities to put right the work.

I feel I have everything I can to now continue. It’s a small claim but feel it needs to be concluded as I know my parents and elderly neighbour would have just nodded and allowed them to quote and fit a new boiler. CAB have been providing me with letter templates.

The only remaining glitch is the trader claimed on the gassafe report that the employee who did the service no longer works for the company (although they still appear on the gassafe register under the company name). My claim is however against the company as they have (had?) a team of 4 gassafe registered engineers.

Thanks for the comments, they have been useful.

Sounds very comprehensive, Moneybox - nicely done.
What are you actually claiming for? A new boiler because they effectively wrecked the existing one by their actions? Cool. Very best of luck.
And what is GasSafe themselves doing about this rose-cheeked* tradesman?

    * Sorry - couldn't resist :blush:

We saved the expense of a boiler by having an understanding already of these things so we stopped them in their tracks pursuing an unnecessary quote and job. I hope it was negligence rather than intent but it does make you wonder.
The tradesman / small company could have easily put this right quickly with a cost of the part they “lost”. It was £8!, and you get them off the shelf. The claim is only for the service. It’s just to hold them accountable for this behaviour. They would have duped an elderly or an unknowable customer.
I am amazed by the behaviour. They threatened us with the comment “no tradesperson will
work at your property as you involved gassafe”. Despite this they were still given by us two opportunities to put right. They left us when it was 6c with no heating so at that stage we had to have it put right.
Yes Gassafe have been in to advise / train / observe the tradesperson.
I am holding back on our google review until we deal with the small claim.
I will feedback when it’s all done.
    Thankyou for your ideas.
