Hi all, I have come to renew my driving license having renewed my passport only a few months ago!

I have been told my online driving license renewal (£14) can’t be processed because the passport office no longer collect digital signatures in the passports so the dvla cannot validate it!  So instead I have to get a D1form from Post office, get a physical picture printed (they told me I could find somewhere that could print my camera roll photo I used for my passport! ( more expense) and then send everything in via post and pay a fee of £17 instead of the online £14!

All because the passport office no longer collect e-signatures!    This is going to affect a number of things as I use my passport in my government gateway account too!!!!   What is going on!!! And why are we having to pay for it!!! Martin, can you do anything about this! This is so wrong!

Anyone got any experience of this/any insight!

Which of the myriad of forums on this website were you intending to post the above question? This forum is mostly about private parking issues.

I don't think "Martin" has much to do about this any more. He took the money and ran.

I got a new passport last week. Took 2 weeks in total after doing application online and then sending old passport back. Quite impressed

But yes the signature thing is a bit odd

The digital signature has not been collected by the passport office since 2017 passports are now signed on receipt!
Getting "Martin's" attention on a MSE with thousands of posts is a bit of a tall order even if he was really still in charge.

An alternative is to go to the Post Office. They will take a photo and process everything for you.

I renewed my driving license on the 9th April and i could use my passport for it. It is a newer passport where i had to sign it when it arrived rather than the digital signature so not sure why it won't let you.

Have you tried to do it?

Martin didn't run. He took the money, yes but he's still Chair of the site. And his photo's still up there, in the left hand corner.
