Discussing prices through eBay messages

Not sure if I am being over the top here so advice welcomed.

I had an item on eBay that also had offers enabled.  It didn’t sell, and my intention is to relist next time there is a fvf offer.  The auction ended yesterday and I’ve now had someone contact me to ask what price I would accept.  I was going to reply and say it will be relisted again when there is a fvf offer, and saying what the start price would be, but having heard a few stories of people having issues when discussing prices through eBay, I’m concerned that this could be flagged in some way.

Am I right to be cautious, or am I being a bit too careful?  I have no intention of selling outside eBay.

I'd stick to saying it will be relisted when you next get a FVF offer.

I doubt discussing prices will affect you in any way. As long as no conversation about selling outside eBay is held then you should be fine. I exchanged messages before with customers who were interested in negotiating a price when buying multiple items and never had a problem.

Why not just relist it now and only accept a slightly higher offer that covers the non-discounted fvf?

No issues with discussing price in messages. Can always cover yourself by saying '£x when I relist on eBay "? I maybe wouldn't even mention the FVF offer, as the Buyer may use that as a bargaining chip. There should be a FVF offer this weekend (normally every 2 weeks) so maybe just give a price with 10% wiggle room, tell the buyer you'll hopefully relist this weekend as 'extremely busy right now', and cross your fingers for the FVF offer ?

Thanks for the replies.  I sent an answer explaining that I would re list on the next fvf .

I think they were hoping I would sell for less than I had listed for, and were looking for a way to negotiate that.
