I've just bought a large, tall, clear glass vase which I want to fill up to 1/4 full to support the artificial grasses and flowers I want to arrange inside. Obviously, this is a non-water situation.
I want to avoid anything non-eco like plastic and anything scratchy like pebbles. So far I've had wine corks and ping pong balls suggested. Can anyone contribute any other ideas?

small pieces of driftwood?
I would actually suggest something smooth & solid like the marbles or larger pebbles so that you can wash the whole thing out from time to time!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Make a load of paper mache (sp) balls, paint them white and paint some designs or put dots or patterns on them.
Glass beads, but bulk out the middle.
Pine cones, sea shells.
Plain popcorn (dyed with food colouring)
Sawdust mixed with glitter.
Make a load of pom poms.
Make some wicker spheres.

Scrunched up cellophane. an inverted glass, or small Christmas baubles1

Scrunched up some cellophane round a string of fairy lights. Keep the little battery pack thing on the outside though. As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...1

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think the pebbles idea is unsound as they would likely scratch the glass. Some of the other things might go mouldy inside a vase. However, certainly food for thought.1
