I purchased a Panasonic Dimension 4 in 1987 the day my son was born. (After the birth event) With my young daughter with me we called it a TV for the kitchen. My daughter had great delight telling her mum that we now had a TV for the Kitchen.

It was still working 3 years ago. Never been serviced, at the time never realised it should be.

3 years ago we replaced it at the same time as replacing a Zanussi Freezer from 1985 purchased from Rumbelows. Main reason to replace was the amount of Electricity they both used. They both still worked.

Things are not built as well as they used to be.

I bought my microwave in 1983 and it's still working without anything being replaced. It's just a cheap Matsui, which I think was Dixon's own brand.

We had a circa 1990 Kenwood microwave until a few months ago. About 5 years ago it developed a fault where opening the door blew the internal fuse and often tripped the RCD in the house fusebox.

Fixed this by replacing the three microswitches that interlock with the door. Gave another 5 years of service until the plastic latching thing broke. This could have been fixed but I was worried about the door not sealing sufficiently afterwards.

Replaced with a shiny/expensive Sage grill/microwave because we wanted another with a stainless-steel interior. The new one weighs approximately half that of the Kenwood so I'm not convinced it'll see the 35 years of the last one.

Our Panasonic microwave lasted 17 days outside the 12 month warranty.
I retrieved the Sandstrom unit i'd stored in the garage as a 'spare', which had lasted 9 years. that was 1 year ago, and it's still going strong.
It has a stainless steel? interior, only just showing a tiny bit of rust. I wish i'd bolted a block of magnesium to the chassis....
