However bad you feel you are playing you were probably worse last month
Agreed, and I need to set the bar pretty low. I got back into it during lockdown but it's all lapsed again since!

Just been catching up on all your comments.  Lots of good advice, thank you.
Did anyone feel anxious about telling their boss (especially a good boss), having some people doing their best to put you off, and obviously the lower monthly income??? These are niggles which seem to be clouding my judgement/final decision.

@Sunsh1ne54 I was a little worried, but my boss quite a bit older than me and clearly has no plans for retirement anytime soon. Each to their own, I reckon. Response from the vast majority of my colleagues (especially ones near in age) has been to tell me how jealous they are!

    obviously the lower monthly income???

But you appeared to be saying that you had sufficient for your needs?

A good boss is not an ogre and if a few objections are enough to put you off, then dissatisfaction/stress notwithstanding, you are not ready to retire?

I am in the position where I think I have enough money but my income will be substantially lower in retirement, hence I'm carrying on working, although I most probably don't need to. Its a difficult psychological hurdle for some, including me
It's just my opinion and not advice.

I have but it’s going to be a lot lower than my salary, so will take some adjustment that’s all

    I just worry I’ve missed something…

I got on very well with my boss and team. I felt very uncomfortable and didn't find the notice period easy. She kept trying to get me to stay on for a bit longer, but deep down I knew I was getting manipulated. So had to be strong and stop pleasing other people. You only get one life. I went at 57.5, I'm fit and healthy but know so many people with health problems. Enjoy life while you can. Once you've left work you'll probably find your life moves on and everyone at work will too.

My income from the summer onwards will be less than 1/3 of what I was earning before I went part-time. However, we don't owe anyone anything, there will be no more expensive commutes  and a very good 'cushion' in the bank. For my husband and me, that works out as more than enough :)

If you’re really stressed maybe you need a bit of time off to relax, so you can be more objective about it.

Yes, our mortgage is paid, we will have savings, so I guess I’m just making sure I’m not missing anything
