Marriage Allowance

in Cutting tax
Hello!
I am a low earner, and I've transferred my TFA to my husband, backdated 4 years. He got a cheque for £700, which feels low considering I've always been under the threshold (it's also dated the tax year 21-22).
I paid £300 + NI for 21-22, which feels like a bite, considering how little I currently make (I'm hoping to up my income). I've just received a letter saying that I owe another £300 in NI contributions for 21-22! This doesn't feel right. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!

Marriage transfer Allowance is a fixed amount based on 10% of your personal allowance charged at basic rate of tax.
2019/20 --- £250
2020/21 --- £250
2021/22--- £252
2022/23 will reviewed when the end of year review is done.
NIC is separate from income tax.
Have you been told you have to pay the NIC charge or have you been advised you need to pay it to protect your state pension?0 -

Thanks! If you’re on uc then you may need to repay uc as well seems to depend on when change is applied, we also had to pay extra council tax on most recent year as well. Still waiting to hear if have to repay from previous years as well now, uc haven’t had confirmation from HMRC yet and apparently can’t take proof from me of the refund even though have been upfront on it!
hope all goes ok for you.Life throws you curve balls and kicks you in the teeth… learning to live with weird neurological complications and spine injury and hating fall.0
