  • Thanks everyone! For some reason it won't let me comment individually as it's blocked as suspicious posts apparently so hopefully this is okay! Really appreciate these tips and I will give them a go soon (when the weather isn't as warm!!)

    I can't comment on using smokeless fuel as I only burn wood, but if I don't stint on the kindling I can get the flue well up to temperature within 10 minutes and then larger pieces go on. The principle must be similar with coal: get the fire going before loading it, and don't overload even with the dry stuff you should be using. But we've all got it wrong and every stove and flue, let alone fuel quality is different and you'll soon learn how your fire behaves.
