Thank you both for your answers, all understood.
I now see the distinction between pre 2016 being available for purchase but not contributing in my position.
Ridiculously I had forgotten of course, the triple lock increase upon the extra £23.30 especially as I have no reason to expect to not live long enough to benefit.
Finally may I ask what is the best procedure should I wish to make these voluntary contributions to buy the 4 years 2016-17 to 2019-20 ?
Should I still try Future Pensions option 1, 4, 1 to gain a code for these payments ?
This seems a redundant step since you both have given the same advice that Future Pensions would surely give as well ?
OR would you recommend I contact HMRC NI enquiries for the 18 digit code directly ?
I understand fully I am placing my faith in your recommendations but I value your advise.
Many thanks once again to both of you.

If you know the years you wish to purchase, you do not need the code.

You can pay by cheque and post to HMRC.
