iniltous said:You continue to use the service for the 30 days notice period so you it’s disingenuous to state 7 weeks in reality (in your example ) is 3 weeks , if the billing cycle is such that you are charged for 3 weeks after you have already left that’s probably the worst case scenario , most won’t be charged for that many days after the changeover.
If you argue in this situation the consumer has lent the provider some money for 3 weeks interest free , that same consumer could have made many chargeable calls upto the day the changeover takes place , and wouldn’t have to pay for those call for 3 weeks , in that case is the provider giving that consumer an interest free loan ?
It’s always been the case that rental is charged for in advance and call charges in arrears, you don’t say what line of business you are in , but presumably you don’t have millions of customers , and automated billing systems.I get the usage point and have no issue with the final bill to pick these up after the end of the contract. They still should be capable of ensuring their system doesn’t charge the customer for rental covering a period beyond their exit date. This wasn’t an invoice issued a day or two after notice was given, it was a week or more after. I have never had the same issue with say mobile phone companies.Given I am out of contract 30 days notice is annoying but as someone said in the T&C’s but paying for beyond that and then having to get a refund is just incredibly poor system design.0 -
Not going to discuss the details as TBH I prefer to pick my battles and this one is too small to worry about. That said I always end up being owed small refunds when moving between mobile phone providers so you are obviously better at that than I am.0

Unless the companies you reference
"that have managed to ensure their billing system doesn’t charge beyond the customers contract termination date"
are providing continuous utility services, with contracts running over years, to 30 million customers, I would suggest that the comparison as to the efficacy of their billing systems is not valid.
