Totally agree with previous 2 posters. As a child of the 1950s I replace ‘stuff’ only when necessary, but when I do I try to buy the best/most reliable/energy efficient.
I also find the staggering variety of lightbulb technology slightly overwhelming😊

Same here, but I find LED bulbs seem to have a short life so the opportunity cones around soon enough.

Perhaps we should have Bulb Banks to which people who have bought 6W 806 lm bulbs could donate their old 9W versions to those whose existing ones have failed? :)

You could offer them on Freecycle.

    Gerry1 & Qyburn - Very good points!

We should stop seeing light bulbs as consumables.
Reliability and life of newer designs has improved a lot but there's still a long way to go even for many household brands. Cheap unbranded imports are a toss of the coin.

I still have a cupboard full of 100w and even 150w bulbs if some one wants to make me an offer.

Only if they are Photocrescenta (or Photolux) on an E27 base.

Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Is it worth switching from standard LED bulbs to filament LEDs on lights that are on for many hours at a time?
Anyone got experience with these new filament type LEDs?
    Potentially yes.

The ultraefficients draw less power and last longer (we're being told 50000 hours)

The downside at the moment is their cost.

The Philips range is available from John Lewis/Waitrose, Argos and Amazon but a 60w equivalent (4w) will cost you at least £8
