I am on a smart prepay meter and just had an email saying they have been under charging me for the last 6/7 months and I have to pay it all back. Surely I can't be held accountable for their mistakes. Any advice would be good.

  • You're not accountable for their mistake - just for the energy you've used.

Check the figures and if they're correct, you just need to pay any outstanding cost for the energy.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

If you spotted that they had been overcharging you for the past few months would you similarly want to just let it go?
Do check what they have been charging you and see if they are correct, but if so then yes, they are able to insist on the correct payment being made.
If they didn't tell you about a price change though that would be different, so don't just assume they are right...
