Even when a bank puts a stop on a CPA. This is logged on Visa/Mastercard own system, that retailers also use to update card details or check if cancelled. I have known retailers ignore it & still process them...
Have seen them come through 8 years after expiry. Seems this is covered in Visa regs that they can do this.... Crazy 😶🌫️Life in the slow lane0 -
Well I didnt suggest it, I asked the question, it would seem logical, else someone could steal card, you report it lost, but they setup CPA in mean time before its reported. The question was specific to a card been reported as lost, not card expiry as you indicated in your last line.0

To which the answer is NO.
Visa Account Updater, Mastercard have their own version. Retailer simply requests new card details to process payment.
If it was not one set up by you, it can be reported as fraud. Retailer will then come back with customer acc details. So in these cases it's pretty clear it is not customer, as well as can check ip address used. (one good reason not to use VPN)Life in the slow lane0 -
Thanks for the clarification, I think I will remain sceptical about CPA's they just seem far less convenient to sort out than DD's, of which can be dealt with immediately simply by logging into internet banking.I do the majority of my card payments now using a disposable virtual card on revolut. Exception is probably amazon and food shopping (morrisons seem to have issues with processing cards that arent a normal debit card for me, lots of processing failures).0

Now maybe things have gone backwards since my last Payments project or perhaps our acquiring bank lied to us (though it was out sister company) but it was how things used to be.1 -

The systems are supplied by card providers & you use the retailer ID. So if you have more than one product with retailer, it will block them all. Or should. As I said I have known retailers ignore it. But that tend to be the less well known retailer. Never known any of the big CPA's do that. If you get the gist of what I'm saying.
There is also a option to stop all CPA, but it is something we are told not to use, as it can cause problems if customer wants to set one up.. But we have been known to use it when fraud CPA are set up.
System also takes 24 hours to update.Life in the slow lane0
