Technically, it never went bust. It was put into Special Administration and bought by Octopus as a going concern. The issue for all consumers is how the costs incurred by the Special Administrator will be recovered.Grizzlebeard said:Hi Hepburn... situations such as the firm going bust - as is the case here.
Hahaaha.... Thanks Dolor.Sorry my badly worded. Could just have said "Out of business..." - or more accurately, "Change of ownership". My big headache came when Ebico was transfered to British Gas! Still, "Contract" happily back with Ebico now, and part of Octopus.

Direct debit functionality allows the originator to mark a payment as a final payment. That marker will automatically remove the mandate. Not all originators will use that functionality and it tends to only be on debts.Qyburn said:
A supplier can cancel a direct debit in some way, when we settled our mortgage the DD to Cheltenham and Gloucester disappeared without any action on my part. I think it was the same with Neo but I wouldn't quite swear to that.TheElectricCow said:If you didn’t cancel it with the bank the direct debit would have still existed it would just be that bulb would have stopped taking payments through it, so it would still be on your account when transferred to Octopus. Bulb cannot cancel the DD, only you/the bank can.
In the OPs case, it's more likely that the mandate continued to exist but wasn't called upon. So, it was active at the bank and at the supplier but no payments collected under it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). You could pay by variable Direct Debit, get the DD discount but still only pay for what you use each month. Or pay a low, token DD and top up the balance by bank card if you get cashback from the card (currently what I'm doing).sourpuss2021 said:I’ve just today found I can’t log in to my Bulb account as it says I’ve been transferred to Octopus. I presume I’ll be getting an email from them soon? I’ve downloaded the Octupus app but wasn’t able to log in using my Bulb password.
My Bulb bill is also usually generated on the 1st or 2nd, and I’d already manually paid about what I expect it to be. So I’ll have to see if I get a new Octopus bill in the next couple of days instead.
I’m another direct debit refusenik, paying variably by bank card. But may have to change if the penalty for this with Octopus is harsh. If you are paying by card you may have noticed it difficult to find the link on the website now. It took me ages, I think the dept of dirty tricks have hidden it to get people to use Direct Debit (I am a refusenik) .Anyway if you can't find it this may help:- Log into your account and click on the "View recent bills" Link then select "View latest statement" PDF Link. Scroll down the statement to the "Your payment options" BoxUnder Credit or Debit Card section hover over "www.octopus.energy/payment" you will see its a link.Click Link and this should take you to the payment screen.octopus.energy/dashboard/accounts/Account No/payments/new/where Account No = Your Acct No .eg: similar to : A-1B2CD34EI hope this is some help.0 -

From my dashboard it's under 'Change my Payments' then scroll down to 'Make a one-off payment'. Hopefully simpler than having to type in a URLThe_Waiter said:Spoonie_Turtle said:
