Balance transfer help

Hi,

I have a card with one lender that had a balance of around £2,800 last week. I tried open a balance transfer card with another lender to transfer this amount over for a 0% deal.

At the time of applying, the new lender took my card details but the balance transfer screen crashed.

Customer services at the new lender said the application had been received but not the balance transfer request but I could do that when I received the card.

I was going to pay £1,800 off a second card with cash in addition to the transfer on this card. But as the transfer had failed I decided to pay £1,800 off this card instead and transfer the smaller second card to pay a lower transfer fee.

However - today the new card has arrived. And with it, confirmation that the full £2,800 has been balance transfer requested from the other credit card.

This means I’ll have over transferred £1,800.

What’s likely to happen?

Will the lender reject the transfer? Will I ended up in credit and if so, can I just request they send me the cash so I can pay that on my other card? Or will they just want to return £1,800 to my new card?

Bit frustrating as I’m trying to sort my cards out and I can see this causing a problem or delay to this plan now. I also don’t want to get stuck with extra transfer charges for failed transfers.

    Yep, any of those.

The card provider can tell you which they'll do.

Firstly, wait until all the transfers have been done, and show the correct balances on each of the credit card and current accounts. Then do any further transfer(s) to reconcile the situation to how you actually want it, ie transferring a credit balance off the credit card, into current account, then send it on to the correct card.

Also to ask......did cust services definitely say this, or are you interpreting something else which was said, or phrased differently?

If they did, and you have incurred extra transfer fees, you could contact them again and ask for a refund of those fees and it would be reasonable for them to do it.
