EE mobile price hike - heads-up for those that have have paid off their phone

Just a heads-up for those on EE mobile tariffs - it's worth checking that you got the right increase.
In our case we had what was originally a phone-and-SIM plan. We'd paid off the phone over the duration of the contract and got switched to a lower-cost SIM-only plan.
However when EE applied the price hike, they applied it to the *original* price of the plan, so we went from £16.13/month up to £24.14, a lot more than the expected 14.4%.
Their first line of support denied that there was any problem and told us sorry but cost of living etc, but persisting got us through to the upgrades team, who resolved it completely (we ended up with a lower tariff then we'd been on so far, in exchange for renewing the contract for 12 months).
Don't know if this was just a hiccup with our account specifically, but maybe a good idea to check your bill if in a similar situation with a paid-off phone.

Interesting to note thanks. EE broadband side kindly threw me off my "fixed 12 month rate" and then dumped the RPI+X on top of that, basically putting my price up from 26 to 40 a month. And are surprised that I am cancelling and wont consider renewing.Peter
