Just change your DD details with your suppliers.

    Most can be done online.

Why keep an account with a bank you dont like?

It's not the banks responsibility to change DDs it's yours

As above, I have been having issues with my bank for nearly 4 months and have just made an official complaint to the financial ombudsman.

I have currently been holding for nearly 2 hours to get through to someone as I would like all my direct debits to come out from another account. I know I can use the switching service most banks offer but that would mean closing the account down and I'm not sure that's a good idea if there's an ongoing complaint?

I know there is also a partial switching service but that means opening a new account. Ideally I would just like to move everything to one of my existing accounts. I have spoken to the bank which I would like everything moved to and they have explained I need to speak to the bank that I want everything moved from but I am finding it impossible to speak to anyone.
There is a school of thought that a company is going to look more favourably on existing customers than ex-customers and so you shouldnt move away until the complaint is settled. However, if you have legitimately now escalated to the ombudsman (rather than one of those that contact before they are entitled to escalate) then its no longer in their hands and the ombudsman will be agnostic to if you are still a customer or not
But given the OP must have exhausted banks complaint process. As they have said it's gone to FOS - Or at least we hope they have, or FOS will just bounce it back. Then OP will have to go through the banks complaint process...

Once with FOS it will make no difference to the bank, as they have no part in any decision making.

So if complaint process has all been done correctly, then I would just switch away. Which was why the CASS was set up. To make it easy for unhappy customers to move away.
Would also allow OP to get a bribe, if it is one of the banks with the offers. If not, then why not?

Might have been an idea to read the rest of what you quoted because you've just repeated what I said :)

During my war with Abbey in the 90s,I kept everything open but stuck a grand into my new account.
Fortunately I did,the issues were all settled in my favour (the staff noticed I was withdrawing everything except the amount needed to pay all my d/ds and s/orders) but unremarkably they tried to steal £200 from my house sell!
Keeping the lines open meant I could complain even more about them lol
Ps went to Bradford & Bingley who were took over by Abbey/Santander lol,I shifted everything in days...
I have a deep burning indifference
