in Credit cards
Hi All
As I previously held a JaJa (ex Post Office) Credit Card and it's being closed (see other threads) I need to find a new Credit Card for travel. One good thing with the JaJa was that I had had a good limit on it (£6k+) so was able to put the hotel on it when we went out (free cancellation until 1800 the day before etc plus bigger discounts applied then "pay now" rates). Anyway looks to be a toss up between Barclaycard and Halifax, I went through the quick checker on MSE and found that I had 0 chance of getting the Barclaycard.....but pre approved for Virgin Money / Halifax.
Thought about it overnight - could it be down to the fact I already have a Barclaycard Platinum card (not used for 2 years so need to spend something on it to maintain the £2k limit).......
Is there any experiences of people speaking to Barclaycard and sayng "can you transfer me to a new type of card" - as it's more suited to my needs etc.......
Also hoping that they will give me a similar limit....

Why don't you just ring up Barclaycard and see if they'll switch you over to the Rewards card? If they say no, you've been pre-approved for the Halifax Clarity so just get that instead. Before applying, I would use the eligibility checker on the Halifax website to be double sure.1

Google is also my friend......found this : https://www.barclays.co.uk/help/cards/barclaycard/can-i-upgrade-or-change-my-card/#:~:text=You could be eligible change,to change cards right now.The Forum Member formally known as Pieman1972 (but failed to sort his account out!!)0

On other boards, it seems you can now only have one Barclaycard at a time. If you have more than one from before this rule was implemented you are fine to keep them.If you want a different Barclaycard, you need to look in the app and see what cards are available to you.Or ring up CS and see if they can see what cards are available to you.But if the computer says no......Edited to add: app wise, not sure if you need to look in the Barclays bank app or the Barclaycard app.0

I went on the chat via the website (gawd was it slow!!!) eventually they fed back that they could see I was transfer to the Reward Fee Free Visa... They advised how to do it via the App. I asked whether it could be done via the website - unfortunately only via the app - lol......
Despite working with mobile technology for the last 10 years plus it really frustrates me that firms put more functionality into their mobile apps.....why??? probably down to more data being pulled from the app then a website use.....
I have installed the app and can see I can "swap" to the Reward card - I think I will call to make sure they honour the existing credit limit

You can open your Barclaycard app - go to 'cards' - go to ' change to a different card' - and the rewards card if you're eligible will be there. Select it - and in a few days it'll be delivered. Same credit limit and same APR as your existing card.0

I have just sorted the rest of my ‘Travel Card’ setup and I now have the following;
- Zopa CC £5k limit - Zero FX fees and zero interest for cash-like transactions but may incur £3 fee (£3 definitely applies to cash withdrawals which I would never do). This is a VISA card at visa exchange rates.
- 118Money CC £1,200 limit - Zero FX fees, MASTERCARD backup if visa goes down or Zopa block my card
- Kroo Current Account VISA debit card - Zero FX fees exchanged at Visa rates and 3.33% AER on in-credit balances. Further backup where CC can’t be used.
I already have a Barclaycard Avios card so can’t have a second card and don’t wish to change to a Rewards card. As above, can be swapped in app if eligible.
Halifax Clarity and Virgin Money also rated highly.
Use the lenders own eligibility checker NOT the one on MSE.If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.
Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £55,050)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
Creation Credit Sale 0% x 1 = £112.50pm x 20 mths
0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
Mortgage Outstanding - £137,707.00 (Payment 13/360)
Total Debt = £7,400 (0%APR) @ £100pm - Stoozing0 -

I have had my main Barclaycard (I have two) since 1999 and in all those years I have switched between many different card products over time (at least 5-6 I can easily remember), but my account (can be checked on any credit agency report) has always been the same, with original opening date being reported, history of balances, payments and credit limits changes. For historical reference, the only time you could not product swap the card keeping the same account was when Barclaycard run co-branded cards, like IHG (completely closed) and Hilton (closed to new application but still running for existing customers), as those needed a separate account (but you could still move the limits across them if holding more than one card)0 -

Barclaycard run co-branded Avios cards now - but you are able to swap between them and other non-Avios cards (if eligible).

On the Barclays online account and app it shows as Hilton Honours Platinum Visa, whilst the new ones shows as Barclaycard Avios / Avios Plus. When they still accepted application for the Hilton Card, and already running the rule of “one Barclaycard only”, the exception was in fact that you could have one Barclaycard and One Hilton card, and could not product swap into the Hilton (I had to in fact close another legacy Barclaycard and Apply for a new account /Hilton card).0
