Sofa Recall - Should my 'add on' damage protection insurance be refunded?

I've had a sofa and a chair recalled by Argos.

When I bought the sofa and chair I also took out accidental damage protection insurance. Argos have collected the items and refunded me the cost of the sofa and chair but they haven't refunded the accidental damage protection insurance. I've questioned this and they've been giving me the run around. The latest is that I need to contact their insurance provider and ask them to cancel the insurance. I've pointed out to Argos that this is a problem they've caused and I've bought insurance from them but they've very much had a "computer says no" approach to this. I haven't contacted their insurance provider yet but I'm not expecting a great outcome from that conversation.

So 2 (actually 3) questions.

Should I be getting my accidental damage protection insurance refunded?

Should I expect a full refund seen as the sofa being insured wasn't fit for purpose or a partial refund as I've had nearly 6 months of cover (it's a 3 year policy)?

I've noticed they also haven't refunded my original delivery costs. Should that be refunded as well?

Thanks.

  • I would be wanting a refund of delivery charges, and a 5/6  of the insurance policy.

I'd have thought you're entitled to the delivery cost and 5/6ths of the insurance cover.  You have had 6 months of cover, so it seems reasonable you're charged for that.

Hi, my natural assumption would surely be that if the products have been removed there's no need for insurance. What do they think you need insurance for now?

Contact their insurance provider and see what they say. You may be pleasantly surprised. Maybe not a full refund though because, as you say, the furniture was covered for the time you had it.

Just my own thoughts and opinion - I would be happy with a partial refund, tbh.

If in a similar position, I'd be pushing for a refund of delivery costs and a partial refund for the unused portion of the insurance. To be fair, you've been insured since you bought it, and had you poured red wine all over it, then fallen over the coffee table snapping the frame while trying to clean it, you 'could' have made a claim. At that point you'd not have known that a recall was due (and it may never have happened). So yes, I'd be going with delivery costs and a partial refund of insurance.
