Good morning
I have recently had a chap out from a local firm to quote me for a new boiler and replace a couple of radiators (existing rads are ancient- single panel without any fins and struggle to heat these two rooms in cold weather).

The quote I have received this morning is:

Removal of existing boiler to be replaced by Vaillant Ecofit Pure 415 plus matching horizontal flue and advanced boiler protection kit. The boiler protection kit we have quoted for extends the warranty of the boiler from 7, to 10 years. Powerflush to be completed before installation. Installation of 2 new radiators. Gas Pipewrok to be upgraded to meet current regulations.

Existing heating system to be retained as per surveyors assessment with the addition of 2 new radiators as requested. The Gas supply to the boiler will be upgraded to 22mm copper pipe to comply with current regulations as per surveyors assessment.
A replacement Mid-Position valve is to be installed.
The system will be power-flushed before starting the installation, as per surveyors recommendation.
Existing heating system controls to be replaced with a Honeywell 2 Channel 7 Day programmer.
The boiler condense will run to the drain adjacent to the conservatory as per surveyors notes.
‘Local Company’ is a registered Part P compliant business. All necessary electrical works will be completed and certificated by ourselves.
A new power supply will be required for the new boiler.
The system will be tested and commissioned in accordance with the manufacturer instructions and in compliance with the relevant codes detailed above by our own fully qualified engineers.
We estimate that the installation will take a total of 2 working days.
All work undertaken by ‘Local Company’ is covered by our own warranty, covering parts and labour for 2 years.
The Vaillant Boiler is covered by a 7 year accredited installer warranty, which is extended to 10 years with the addition of the Vaillant advance boiler protection kit which we have quoted for.

Price quoted is a little under £4500 inc VAT

It is 23 years since I last had a boiler installed so have no idea about current prices
Thank you
2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shading
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Have a feeling a basic 7 day programmer would not meet current requirements - You would be better off fitting a programmable thermostat that allows for different temperatures to be set throughout the day/week. Needing a two channel control does complicate things a little... The Drayton Wiser system would probably be suitable.

Quote seems to be a bit on the high side to me - I'm getting numbers around £3500 for a new boiler. Can't see adding two radiators would cost an extra £1K.

Ok, thank you for reading and replying 🙂

    I don’t know what 2 channel means…?
I asked for the new programmer to be able to do hot water and heating separately, twice a day on/off and to be able to set different times for weekdays and weekends.

Now you’ve mentioned a thermostat, I remember that the chap said I’d need one with the new boiler but I don’t see it mentioned on the quote…

You need to ask them to add the thermostat to the quote.

£4500 might be the right price if you are in the South East, but is a bit high for other parts of the country. However, they are offering two years of their own warranty, which is worth some peice of mind. They are saying all the right things on the quote.

I paid £2800 for a replacement boiler four years (I live in Yorkshire), but there was no increase in gas pipe size, no new power supply, no new mid-position valve, and no new rads required. Prices have also increased quite a bit since then.

The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Tbh you are probably better off with a Vaillant controls solution. Vaillant use a proprietary communications protocol & their  controls will allow the boiler to do advanced modulation, the Honeywell won't.
This will probably save an extra ~5% on energy consumption which should pay for itself over the anticipated life of the boiler.

edit: possibly there may also be an extended warranty for the Vaillant controls if installed at the same time as a new Vaillant boiler.

    Hi @BUFF

     What is advanced modulation?

e.g. load and/or weather compensation usually using a communications protocol such as OpenTherm or a manufacturer's own equivalent.
It will let the boiler more closely tailor output to demand so higher modulation ratios - perhaps 10:1 or even more in a latest generation boiler - can also be useful to minimise fuel use.

Just dropped £2600 on a new combi boiler install (Ideal Logic+) with a vertical flue kit. I'm replumbing the heating & hot water system myself to keep costs down. Extra radiators, pipes, and fittings is adding another £250 or so to my bill.

£4500 seems high  :open_mouth: Assuming the boiler is not being relocated elsewhere and the existing boiler output is around 15Kw .
Using one of those internet boiler selling platforms, with the additional work listed the best i can get is £3900 (for a low quality boiler, they dont list an openvent heat only vaillant )

The Ecofit 415 is a good basic gas boiler  I know its hassle getting people in to do estimates but i would ask for another estimate. Did you find your 'local company' from vaillant internet site they have a list of local accredited installers.
