How does collection items work on Ebay nowadays?

I need to list some heavy furniture items that I will put on as collection only.

How does this work for payment nowadays - I last sold some collection items when we were still using Paypal?

The article mentions cash on collection as an option but the few I've sold for collection since managed payments were introduced have all been paid for beforehand (I had cash in collection listed but the buyers said that they had to pay at the point of sale). The buyers all had the collection code which I scanned with the app. Seemed to work fine, including the one at 11pm one Christmas Eve!
