Does anyone have a recipe for making some kind of insect deterrent which can be painted/sprayed on the trunks of fruit trees?

Instant flashback to my granddad’s allotments! They used grease bands, you can still buy them in garden centres or Wilko. The closest to homemade is to buy the grease and make your own bands with waxy paper and string. It is just grease, don’t use anything designed for machinery. I guess animal or vegetable fat is best, but I expect foxes would take something scented like lard. if you can buy a tub of the stuff sold for gardens it may work out cheaper than a food grade product. It won’t stop winged moths, you need traps for those.Fashion on the Ration
