Missing leg from Bbq

Hello. We purchased a BBQ 7months ago- looked in the box but didn't unpack it as we decided to store it until this year.
Went to unpack it and build it this weekend and there is a leg missing. The company we purchased it from says we should have reported a missing part within 14 days!
We paid by credit card. It came with a 12 month warranty.
Any advice with what we can do now?
thanks

Although there is no specific timeframe for such issues it is a shame it's now past the 6 month point, was it over £100 OP?In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0

In theory you have the same rights as you did on day one, the difficulty is how plausible it is that you would only just notice now (rather than have, say, mislaid the part yourself).1

Unfortunately for the OP, it's not an unreasonable assumption by B&Q, although not necessarily an accurate one, that the leg was lost from the opened box some time in the passing 7 months.

You never know, they might just send it to you for free.1

No they don't.user1977 said:In theory you have the same rights as you did on day one, the difficulty is how plausible it is that you would only just notice now (rather than have, say, mislaid the part yourself).
Assuming that the sale is covered by UK legislation then If the missing item had been discovered on day one, they could have rejected the BBQ and obtained a full refund and simply purchased another one.
As they have now passed the 6 month stage, the retailer could ask the OP to prove that the leg was missing at the time of purchase, something that will now be next to impossible to do.1 -
So, the BBQ was purchased in September? Can you show that the rest of it remains unused? If so, I don’t see why the retailer shouldn’t be looking into it further for you.As other posters have said, the difficulty is proving it was like that when it was delivered, but I think if you can show the rest of it is unused, they should be helping. If they won’t though, you can try your credit card (providing it was over £100) although they’ll probably also want some evidence. Or, you could try the manufacturer if the warranty is with them.1
