Arriving into Hamburg from short cruise. Unsure if should stay more than a night. Any thoughts on places to stay, visit and if worth staying a few days? Thanks

We went to Hamburg on a short cruise and would have gladly stayed another night or two. There are places to visit outside Hamburg, such as Lubeck (medieval town with castle) and various attractions in Hamburg worth a visit, i.e. Das Rathaus (the town hall), Reeperbahn district (former red light district), Speicherstadt district (old warehouses), Elbtunnel (tunnel under the Elbe River), St Nicolai memorial (go to the top for great views over the city), the Alster Lake for a small cruise. We had a meal in a small pub/restaurant called "Franziskaner" tucked away from the main tourist parts, it was "Bavarian" food, simple but tasty and plenty of it. The restaurant was decorated in a typically German style (i.e. old fashioned) and not too expensive. I do love Germany though, so I'm biaised!

I found Hamburg city centre to be fairly dull - most of it was destroyed in the war - but the Reeperbahn is fun for a night out if that's your kind of thing.0

I did a weekend to Hamburg a few years ago and I quite liked it. There’s not as much to do as Berlin but I preferred it to Munich. If you’re already going to be there then I’d say it’s worth a couple of nights.
We stayed at the 25 Hours Hotel which I’d definitely recommend. I think we had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night which we enjoyed and the breakfast was good. I think there might have also been a Hofbrauhaus that we went to and drank a bit too much beer.
It was January when I went and it snowed so that impacted a bit on what we did as I’m not a huge fan of the cold. We were there on a Sunday when lots of things were closed and we decided to go on a boat trip along the river. I’d done no research on Hamburg so I was expecting to see some historical buildings or something. Instead we got a tour of the port and the huge container ships 😂😂 We also went to the German Customs Museum which has an excellent collection of hats that customs officers wore. It was quite a strange museum but it only cost €2 to get in so it’s worth visiting.1 -
Hamburg is a very impressive city, with two lovely lakes and a very lively quayside. Apart from the sights mentioned above, the Opera House is a remarkable structure and well worth a visit. I'd also recommend the amazing Miniatur Wunderland (https://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/).0
