Detached to end terrace? That’s less of a problem, but you do rely on your neighbour being considerate about noise.Garden size. You maybe could accept a smaller garden and get an allotment?
Luckily we are at an age where we can make friends
We are lucky in the sense this is all choice so we dont have to accept 2nd best!

When we move again it'll definitely be to a detached, no question.
Edit - nice as that house was that Linton put up (and it was lovely) it was still a mid-terrace with no real garden.
I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.1 -
I am a firm believer in terraces IF they have good party walls. We are pretty sure our current mid terrace started life as a detatched property in 1780 ish so has 2ft plus thick granite walls. The only neighbour noise we get is via outside which we would get in a detached. Some friends of ours however rented an Edwardian terrace with single skin brickwork party wall and you could hear everything from next door.

We moved from Beds to South Hampshire last September. Still have ways of keeping up with our old friends, but have made new ones too.
The family use it as an opportunity to come here for holidays, so all is great.
To be fair, we don't have huge groups of friends or do huge social events - we love each other's company.
