dvd recorders

Anyone clued up on dvd recorders? I've recently bought a Bush DVR3006 for DS for Christmas but have just noticed that Argos are selling an Acoustic Solutions dvd recorder with hard drive for £69.99 (was £139.99) - which one is better?

I know nothing about DVD recorders but I would expect the more expensive one to be better - is that right? The only differences I can see between the two machines is that the Acoustic one has a hard drive but the Bush one has Dolby sound and a scart lead included. Any advice appreciated.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
The Bush does not appear to have a hard disk drive so is less versatile, neither would seem to have free view tuners if that's a problem.
I'm assuming that they have analogue TV tuners but its not obvious from the specifications.
They can only use DVD +R or +RW disks for recording.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I'd except neither to last, DVD recorders can be troublesome, I'd stick to better brands. Humax, Panasonic, Sony.
Or at least thumb through a copy of a home cinema / av mag in the newsagents and see if list they are listed in the test tables at the back...

I wouldn't recommend a recorder which didn't have a hard drive - a hard drive will totally change your way of life - one of those things that will make you wonder how you ever existed before it! Acoustic Solutions is a highly reputable 'technical' base brand with a wide range of products. Bush is just a rebadging excercise. I guess the AS recorder is reduced because people will want units with a digital receiver in now analogue is beginning to switch off - even so at >£70 it's certainly worth buying.
  • Thanks penrhyn and isofa for your advice. DS already has a freeview box (not a very good one tho') so not sure if that matters to him. I don't really expect them to last a long time but if he wants a more expensive one he'll have to buy it himself! A good idea to look through home cinema mags, I might just do that. Thanks again.
  • :T You've persuaded me lolarentt - analogue switch off is not due here until 2010 so I think I would have had my money's worth by then. Thanks.
