Smart help
Morning all,
just moved into a house that has an electric smart meter. It has a Landis+Gyr E470 with a WMC UBC-tn6. I’ve read that this is a SMETS2 meter. It is linked to the same provider as my last home(Octopus) My questions are, is there an app to monitor usage or an IHD? Also I’m sure the gas meter isn’t smart, is this unusual? Many thanks in advance for any answers/help

Download the free Apps BRIGHT; Octo-Aid or Octopus Watch and you will get to ss what the supplier is pulling from your meters.
SMETS2 meters are agnostic when it comes to the choice of supplier.
You can buy a third-party IHD from Hildebrand or Chameleon (Ivie). Both suppliers are DCC registered and they can pair a new IHD to your comms hub.0 -
When I setup the Bright app it needed the IHD mc address to authenticate. Is there another way to do this if the OP doesn't have an IHD?0

Spoke with octopus. The gas meter is regular meter and the electric smart meter was installed by previous provider and apparently never commissioned there for not usable? They want to arrange to swap it out for their own meter?0

Just a word of caution, we had an old SMETS1 electric meter and a non-smart gas meter when we bought our house. We moved to Octopus as supplier and they started to get regular readings directly off the electric meter.
They then suggested we upgrade the electric meter to a SMETS2 and replace the gas meter with a smart meter. The replacements took place at the beginning of February 2023 and since then we have had intermittent readings off the gas meter and not a single reading ever off the electric meter.
Despite many calls to Octopus and reassurances that they are 'working on it' the siuation is still the same now -almost three months later1 -
Thanks for the word of caution. From what I can see the electric meter is already SMETS2 but they cant get a read from it. I don’t think a smart gas is doable as the meter is boxed into a kitchen cupboard under the sink with a shelf around it. Think I may leave as is.0

At some time in the future your gas meter will have to be replaced, and your supplier will expect you to do what is required to permit access for the work to be carried out.neilied said:Thanks for the word of caution.
