Oxbury Bank email - a scam?

Is this a scam?
I have received an email from Oxbury Bank saying:
"Your End of Tax Year statement for your Personal 1 Year Bond (Issue 7): 1.80% ending 0596 is now ready to be viewed, please log in to your account and visit the 'Account Statements' tab to view your latest statement."
I don't have (and never had) an account with Oxbury Bank.
The address looks right oxbury.com but is this a clever scam?

Well Oxbury did have an account called 1 Year bond (issue 7) earning 1.8% (a bit pathetic in hindsight!) about this time last year, so it would be maturing about now.  It was for deposits from 1k to 500k.

Not that that helps, but at least it suggests the account concept is real.
  • The email sounds legitimate enough, although if you don’t hold an account with them you likely weren’t the intended recipient.

Does the email contain any correct personal information that a genuine bank would hold about you, other than the email address? Something like a post code or at least your correct name?

I would imagine it may be a case of the actual account owner simply mistyping their own email address as yours. In that case you can safely disregard the email.

If it is a scam the risk would probably be relatively low here, as if you don’t have an account with Oxbury you don’t have any details to accidentally give them, so same rule applies, it’s probably best to not engage and disregard the email.
    Moo…

I also had the Oxbury email, and it was genuine in my case since I used to have an account with them in the last tax year.

Perhaps call them to getvto the bottom of why they have your email address on file

If you didn’t have an account with them, it’s mostly either an error or been sent to the wrong person. I’d contact Oxbury and explain the situation - they should be able to help.
