Reporting an Instagram account

I was used as a money mule by someone on Instagram. I reported the account to Instagram but they didn't investigate "high volume of reports, chat wasn't reviewed"
I have evidence from the account holder to support the fraudulent activity. How can I report the account successfully?

If Instagram are not interested, they are not interested.  There is no effective regulation to force them to look at your report.

Police might be a start. If they are interested. But are they UK?

The most you could probably do is report the actual bank account info to whichever bank it belongs to, informing them that it’s being used for fraudulent activity. Obviously make sure your own bank is well aware of the situation too if they aren’t already.

At a push the police may want an official report on the crime, which may provide some useful information if they happen to be investigating the person’s potential involvement in larger illegal activities.

As far as reporting a social media account goes, I wouldn’t hold too high expectations for anything worthwhile to come of that. The unfortunate reality is pursuing it beyond making a basic report is likely to be wasted effort with no lasting impact on the offending user, even if the report is actioned and that particular account does get shut down.
    Moo…
  • If OP wants to do the right thing then yes, reporting the account to the bank/police would be the best thing.

Though that will, with almost complete certainty, lead to their own account’s closure and a Cifas marker meaning OP won’t be able to access any banking facilities in the UK for six years.

Though the crime will be eventually discovered, and the long arm of the law will reach OP one day or another; so not reporting would only delay the inevitable and in the meantime aid criminals and impact more people’s lives.

Given Op has been used as a money mule, they will have had their account closed & a Cifas marker added.
So reporting to anyone is not going to make any difference.
