Scottish Gas Pre-Payment Meter Problem
Options
I am being skinned alive for Gas from Scottish Gas.
I have a debt of around £200 and it is being paid at £10 every now and then off the credit I insert.
This would be a typical week on the card meter. - Buy £20 credit on the Friday, pop it in and lose £10 immediately, £10 credit runs out on the Monday or Tuesday, Emergency credit. £15 in on the Wednesday or Thursday. Another £20 the following weekend. - Average £30 or £40 a week.
I am only running a two year old Combi Boiler fot 2 hrs in the morning and 6 hours at night in a two bed semi. Shower and other sinks are fed from the boiler.
I can't afford this every week, is there something you'd recommend? I asked a while ago to get onto a normal meter but they wanted £250 deposit for six months to have this done. Ideally I'd want to find the cheapest supplier, but I feel I'm tied in with Scottish Gas.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Alex

Having the heating on for 8 hours a day is quite a lot. You need to have it on as little as possible whilst remaining comfortable. Are you heating unoccupied rooms? What are your thermostat settings?0

We have the radiator in the spare room turned off always and the thermostat is set at 20.0

have u seen the site British gas energy trust/scottish gas.
it is a site which helps people who have problems with paying gas/electric bills. I have read on this site martins moneysavers of poele who have had up to £2000 to pay off bills etc. google it and see. it may help0 -
I called them up with a meter reading and they told me, eventually, that I only had £37 debt left to pay. So I begged them to let me pay it off there and then. Some jobsworth was trying to make me wait until it had been paid off on the meter before seeing if I could get back to a normal meter! But I managed to get transferred and got it paid off. I now have no debt on my gas account and hope to get it changed soon. I need to phone back when the debit card payment clears in 4 days to arrange a meter swap.
I will now be looking to switch company. The last statement said I used just over 2000 KWh of Gas in the two months October and November.0
