I've just gifted my son £2k to help with expenses for his first purchase. I, foolishly, took the money from a savings account that had Faster Payments to a current account and then to my usual current account and then to sons. OMG, it took me all morning. I redacted balances on my current account but showed the 2k transaction. Nope. Not acceptable. Resent all bank statements. Wine o'o'clock came early that day.

Probably not much help to the OP but for others gifting money.

Lesson learning for when his brother needs a gift.
