Renewing / Switching Car Insurance during a Claim

We understand we can switch or renew Car Insurance policies whilst having an ongoing claim.
Are there any adverse effects, or issues we should be aware of if we switch?
Our current provider is dragging their heels, and our policy is due for renewal on 3rd May. We've received our renewal price, which has increased from £336 to £795 (a bit difficult to palate) - We'd like to start quote comparisons on or around 11th April.
We'll declare the claim, estimated costs and confirm that the claim (Vandalism) has not been settled. Our NCD is protected (for the little benefit it's actually worth)
Appreciate that any claim is going to increase our future premiums with any provider, and generally motor insurance has increased. It sticks in the throat when considering the claims handling process to date.
Feeling a bit disillusioned with the world at the moment. - Any pointers to prepare us would be appreciated.

Nothing to stop you switching mid claim for Motor, unlike Home other insurers wont have an issue taking you on.
If you were involved in a disputed liability case or an unsettled non-fault case there can be advantages of renewing if the case finally settles in your favour but for a vandalism case where there is slim chance of the vandal being identified and even slimmer chances of any recovery being made from them if they are then this doesnt apply.1 -
Thanks for the pointers.
Unfortunately there is no chance of recovery. We know who carried out the vandalism and its not disputed. Unfortunately they were under the age of 10, so can't pursue it any further.
It's been a month since making the claim, and still no sign of a conclusion. My farts hospitalize small children0
