Mr Kipling have ruined their bramley apple pies (and probably other products)

I agree ! But to answer to op, I welcome reduced sugar, every time I bake which is very often I always reduce the sugar in recipes if I’m not using my own recipes. Far too many very sweet things nowadays I find. I think our palates are changing. I used to love a can of coke and now the thought of one makes my teeth itchPLRFD said:I’ve never thought Mr Kiplings of any kind were any good.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. The individual cakes are handy for transportable snacks though - the kind of thing I buy when I have tradesmen in to keep them going. Albeit far too sweet, even for me!PLRFD said:I’ve never thought Mr Kiplings of any kind were any good.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I totally agree. I knew someone who worked for them. When we had a big extended family get together he used to bring a carrier bag full of their cakes. I think that put me off them for life, none were really worth eatingPLRFD said:I’ve never thought Mr Kiplings of any kind were any good.

I think that their sales must be falling given the price rises shown in the supermarkets. I have also seen that they have moved into the cake mix sector which will hoefully lead to people learning to bake themselves a much healthier and cheaper option.0

Why is cake mix any healthier? Its also unlikely to be much cheaper by the time you've paid £3 for the cake mix and £1.50 for the eggs you are getting close to just buying cake.gwynlas said:I think that their sales must be falling given the price rises shown in the supermarkets. How do you work that one out?gwynlas said:I have also seen that they have moved into the cake mix sector which will hopefully lead to people learning to bake themselves a much healthier and cheaper option.
No doubt the packet will have a load of unnatural ingredients, additives etc that ensure the packet has a very looooong shelf life.
Of course it would be a healthier & cheaper option if they were to bake with wholesome fresh ingredients- from scratchBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

That's not necessarily the case either. You certainly can bake more healthily and more cheaply than ready made, but almost all recipes in the best-selling cookbooks and popular magazines are far higher in fat and sugar than ready made cakes, and generally cost considerably more too. You really have to know what you're doing.Katiehound said:

For baking I think you can't go far wrong with a Be-ro book. And if you compare an older edition and a newer one, you can often see a recipe for the same thing with different amounts of fat and sugar (older = lower) so it's possible to cut both down without problems.pumpkin89 said:
