Help estimated and actual

Apologies for any errors in writing. I've been ill for over three years with neurological issues. I'm alone. I've had estiamted electric readings and actual gas readings. Now I'm more "with it" I'm trying to get my bills in order and had an email from Scottish Power asking for an electric reading before upping my DD by £70. I found and read my meter and am now very worried. Their last estimate was 45094 in January 23 and my actual reading today 5 March is 47252 which is a LOT more. If I give this reading won't they put my DD up hugely as I've used more than they thought? What do I do? I'm quite scared. I don't have a smart meter. Thank you.

This is what happens when you don't supply regular meter readings.  An actual reading turns up from somewhere and is followed by a whopping great bill and usually a direct debit increase.

Also your direct debit is not your bill.  If you pay by DD all that does is go into a kitty from which future bills are paid.  If you end up in credit (which you probably will do in summer) it does torwards your winter usage.

Give them the reading and give them more readings in the future.  Your account will eventually settle down.

after you have given them an actual reading you can discuss a payment plan.
Don't put it off as it will only get worse &, as you are now aware of it, it would prey on your mind ...
