Serious question here, can you claim to identify as a girl rather than boy and get cheaper insurance?
    Someone must have tried this.
If you passed your test as a boy and they ask for your driver number then you're still a boy.

Also what age car is lowest insurance cost? For example a Volkswagen Up!

I'm prepared to spend 8k ish plus the first years insurance. After that it's down to him !!

His test is next week btw😮
As already pointed out, the big risk at that age for the insurer is not repairing the car, but third party claims. Run over Jim Radcliffe or Ed Sheeran at fault, and they'll be paying out an awful lot more than the cost of replacing a VW Up.
The other way to reduce the premium is to put another named driver on the policy who is experienced and mature: maybe yourself, assuming your claim record is good.

I'd start looking at some quotes for cars which aren't typically driven by youngsters if you want to save money - when one of my younger relatives was looking for quotes some of the cheapest they got were for my elderly diesel Volvo estate, I think they also got good prices for an old French diesel people carrier.
I agree. My son, albeit aged 18 not 17 got a V6 engine car for first one, insurance was lower than many of his friends with Corsas and for year 1 worked out at £1250.
My son is coming up to 12 months no claims on his first policy, Toyota MR2 MK2 2.0 Twin Cam, Mid Engine sports car. £1400 with  a blackbox.

My DD is 19, passed her test in her own Skoda Fabia 1.2 Monte Carlo Estate in May 2021, both her mother and I are named drivers.  Nothing has changed, no accidents and no points.  No black box.

    Prices:-

    2021    No    NCD = £477
    2022 1 year  NCD = £553
    2023 2 years NCD = £774

She has been with Privilege years one and two.  I can get it a bit cheaper with companies I'm not keen on (got over a month so may become keener in the next week or so).

I had one one of those for a short while but didn't have power steering so got a Celica

  • 17 yr old car insurance !!  grandson has recently passed his test and will be requiring transport for travel to work when he completes his "A"  level exams.  I was considering handing over my car to him (2009 Hyundai  i30) although I shall still need use of the car on occasion and due to limited parking space at his home, he will be using my drive to park overnight   (we live within walking distance of each other) .  I'm long retired with unblemished driving record but I guess that its going to be expensive anyway.  What options are there to keep the costs reasonable ?

I’m over 50 and have a black box. It’s great.
For some reason, my car, post code = £1300 a year.
12 years protected no claims, one at fault claim, Peugeot 5008 1.6 bluehdi. ( a race car 😜 ).
I’ve got quotes all around the country, just to see if it my post code and one claim but no.
    Quotes from £800 to £4000.
Bymiles, £105 parked, fully comp, protected bonus, hire car, legal cover and £150 excess.
Plus 9.3p a mile I drive. Billed each month like a mobile.
Should work out around £300 - £400 for the year.

I expected to have to go for a black box as hadn't driven for about 12 years even though I bought a "safe" old car.
Ended up paying £185 fully comp (legal & breakdown included) with £35 cashback,  so didn't bother.
