Built Over Service
Last week British Gas did the annual service on my boiler which they have been servicing for about the last 20 years. The boiler itself was working fine but apparently they have identified a safety issue with the boiler as the flue has not been cemented in. I'll get the work done but why when this has been around for this length of time has this suddenly become an issue which they never bothered to identify previously?
In addition to this and more of a concern was they also referred the gas meter installation to the pipeline operator. It's in the porch and has been without anything being touched in the 25 years since I moved in (apart from a meter replacement) and now this is being deemed unsafe due to it being a built over service. Again, why is this suddenly an issue when they have been attending my property for all this time (and the meter was replaced by transco or whoever in this timeframe)?
Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Regulations change, and every year the inspection will be based on current regulations. I operated a conventional boiler for many years with a yellow caution label due to ventilation not meeting latest regulations. Ventilation complied with the regs applicable at time of installation.0

Thanks for the replay and appreciate that regulations change but as far as I can work out the legislation for the service pipe was from the late 1990's. Think the flue legislation is more recent.jbuchanangb said:Regulations change, and every year the inspection will be based on current regulations. Was it the same BG engineer that has been previously?
If it was a different one, maybe they are a bit more of a stickler0
