Single rate electricity meter with dual rate tariff

I recently moved to Tomato Energy as they offered a cheap night rate tariff and I had just had a solar battery installed. The plan was to charge the battery overnight during the cheap rate. I had been told that I would have to have a smart meter fitted but nothing happened. On asking Tomato, I was told that, until they fitted the smart meter (in a few months time) they would assume that 32% of my usage would be during the cheap night rate and this was an industry standard. Anyone else heard of this?

It's pretty standard for an Energy Retailer to estimate usage if it doesn't have the required info. I'd be pushing for a Smart Meter asap -- and remember that some Energy Retailers will pay you for exporting. No idea if Tomato do this.1

Thanks, karlos3112. I have asked for a smart meter asap. They're not my panels (roof-rent arrangement) so no exporting opportunity0
