Building regs - moving a washing machine upstairs

Hi All,
I had an upstairs storage room converted into a small laundry room with help of an experienced builder, but unfamiliar with British Regs. Did this work require Building Regulations Application/Approval? We did need to bring cold water and waste pipe into the room. Thanks for your help!

I don't see any reasons for needing Building Control approval.

My concern would be that if the washing machine is not set dead level, and loaded very carefully, it could be extremely noisy on the spin cycle.  Is the house detached?  If not, I would reconsider.

Noise, leaks, and fire would be my main concern. Fire alarm would be a good idea.

The waste pipe will need careful attention.  You will get smells coming from the soil pipe if the waste pipe is connected directly to it.  You will need something like a U bend to stop this.  Your plumber should be able to advise you.

A lot of washing machines have adjusatble legs on the bottom to level them

Our washing machine is upstairs, it makes so much more sense and I recommend it to everyone. The regulations seem to be around keeping a plug away from a bath/shower, nothing to do with being upstairs. Can't see it's any different than someone in a flat having a washing machine?

Nothing structural, so why do you think you need to involve Building Control retrospectively?

The most important thing is to level the washing machine and make sure that the floor underneath is stable, if the flooring is not stable you can place the washing machine under a small sheet of plywood, which is attached to your flooring with a couple of small screws

Plus using the U bend is also important to avoid unwanted smell from the drainage

Thanks everyone. It has been carefully levelled and there is a U-bend. I just was not sure whether attaching a new waste pipe into the soil pipe needed approval/certified person?
