yeah I will do that - I mean I only actually moved in on saturday so I will check each week - I have an in home display meter in the kitchen as well which - if correct means i should only be paying £60-70 for the electricity
No, don't be relying on that!  The rates could well be completely out of date.

Set it to usage in kWh then you can work out the cost using your tariff rates, then plus SC.

Octupus do offer variable Direct Debit where you pay only for what you use each month based on meter readings.

With Octopus you can also force a bill every time you give meter readings, but don't do that if you do set up variable DD as it'll mess the system up.

Thanks - the display does show kwh as well and I had a calculation based on that.  Hopefully octopus will give me some more details tomorrow when I ring them

Octopus should let you pay by variable DD, they'll issue a bill each month, then take the exact amount owing by DD around 10-14 days later.

Give them a ring if you'd like to pay that way, you'll get the DD rates per kWh, they are cheaper than if you pay manually on receipt of the bill.

You can set the DD online yourself with octopus.

You can request a Direct Debit change, they choose whether they accept it or not, they will have a threshold that they will not let you go below.
