As a 43 year old man I look forward to my compensation.3

I never received a single letter, but didn't need one. The subject was common knowledge in the mid 1990s.
My mum died in late 1995, after having been housebound for several months. Many of her friends would pop in to see her for a gossip, and the subject of the re-equalisation of State pension ages was certainly discussed/moaned about at length. Not for them - they were all in their late 50s/60s - but for their daughters. None of these ladies worked in finance or read the FT.

It'll be interesting to see whether you get an option on whether or not to claim your pittance (sorry, pension compensation), or whether all women affected 'have' to accept compensation, even if it caused them no surprise/distress/financial hardship.Silvertabby said:I think it's disgusting that WASPE are misleading their members, by letting them think that 'victory' = full pension backdating to 60.
Reality is that compensation for failing to send out letters in a timely manner, over a 2 year period, will be more like £500 or £1K.
I also find comments (on other boards!) blaming the Tories for failing to promulgate the changes to be beyond ridiculous..... considering that the future re-equalisation of State pension ages was announced in the 1993 budget and widely advertised/talked about from1995 onwards, one would have expected these pesky letters to have been sent out between 1996 and 2010 (when the gradual changes began). Hmm - remind me again which party was in power from 1997 to 2010.....
If/when this compo is confirmed, I for one won't be claiming it. I'm not a hypocrite.

I don’t remember receiving a letter. I do remember the huge adverts in national newspapers and the numerous articles referring to the changes.3

Isn't this just re-hashing everything that already been said on this subject?

... I just can't have sympathy against the withdrawal of discrimination in favour of women in this age of equality, but I will still hold the door open for them ... as I will for children, old people, people with disabilities or shopping ... and men!

I don't feel I wasn't warned of the changes, FA told me in about 1998 - have known since then that the ages would be equalised. When it was announced, we had posters up mentioning it as a pensions campaign. Flyers were included in all statements that year and little cards were given out to women who came in telling them about the change. It was all over the media too.
As a man, I have never had a letter from DWP or other Govt source about the increase from 65 to 66 or 67.
